Maia Lekow
Maia Lekow is an award-winning Kenyan director, producer, composer, sound recordist, and musician whose multidisciplinary approach fosters intimate, emotionally resonant storytelling. Her debut feature documentary, The Letter (2019), Kenya’s official submission to the 93rd Academy Awards, received international acclaim for its portrait of family, religion, and intergenerational conflict. Her second feature, How to Build a Library (2025), premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and is touring major festivals worldwide. Working with her husband, Christopher King, Lekow creates deeply personal films exploring identity, culture, resilience, and colonial legacies, while amplifying African voices and celebrating women’s strength.
